Alumnus Laurence Kemball-Cook recently visited Dulwich Prep London, captivating boys in Years 6, 7, and 8 with his entrepreneurial journey.
After earning his degree in Industrial Design and Technology from Loughborough University and having worked on over 750 prototypes, in 2009, a kinetic floor tile that could generate clean electricity was born.
Laurence established Pavegen as the vehicle for this original and revolutionary technology. Pavegen is a company that produces clean, off-grid electricity through the power of a simple footstep. Pavegen has completed over 200 permanent and experiential installations across 36 countries. It is based in London and has a research and development centre in Cambridge.
Laurence’s visit ignited curiosity and enthusiasm among the boys, motivating them to embrace creative thinking. He shared insights into his work with leading global brands such as Adidas, Coca-Cola, Formula E, Google, Heathrow, Lexus, Samsung, and Shell.
A particular highlight for the boys was learning about his collaboration with Google to create the largest energy-harvesting floor for the launch of their new flagship smartphone in Berlin.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Laurence for sharing his inspiring story of going from Dulwich Prep London to becoming an award-winning entrepreneur in sustainable technology.
