Nick Forrester (class of 1959) has passed away at the age of 79. Following a successful military career in the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm, he settled in Worcestershire with his wife Kate and turned to accountancy. He became a considerable figure in local golf and rugby circles, playing an important role in the launch of Cecil Duckworth’s Worcester Warriors project at Sixways.
Raised in Eastbourne and educated at Dulwich Prep & Senior, then known as Dulwich College Preparatory School, and Eastbourne College, he excelled at rugby and athletics. In 1964, he joined the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, for officer training and passed out as a 2nd Lieutenant to begin his naval career as an observer. He flew in Sea Vixens and Phantoms until he retired in 1973, having served on the aircraft carriers HMS Ark Royal and HMS Eagle.
During his career with fighter jets, Nick was based at Yeovilton in Somerset and Leuchars in Fife, Scotland. Often, his pilot was Lt. David Braithwaite, at whose wedding in 1971 he served as an usher. At the wedding, he met the bride’s sister, Kate, and they were married 12 months later. The couple began married life in military quarters, but when Nick left the Royal Navy in 1973, they moved to Worcestershire, and he retrained as an accountant.
With business premises in Worcester and Malvern, and finally in a garden office at his home near Malvern, Nick created and developed an accountancy practice that his clients and colleagues highly respected.
Nick served his wider community through his passion and dedication to both rugby and golf. He played a significant role at Worcester Rugby Club, particularly on their relocation to Sixways in 1975, alongside benefactor Cecil Duckworth. Nick was also active in golf, being a founder member of The Royal Oak Golfing Society (TROGS) and playing extensively in England, France, Ireland, and Scotland. Friends described Nick as a genial and generous person, embodying the traits of an officer and a gentleman.
Nick Forrester leaves wife Kate, children Lucy and James and granddaughter Flora. His funeral service will be held at 2.15pm on Tuesday 2 December 2025, at Hereford Crematorium.
