It’s a much argued point as to whether it was the Prep‘s early adoption of computer coding into the curriculum (think Sinclair ZX81) or the daily afternoon nap at the Nursery in Gallery Road that was the catalyst for Tom’s career in IT but that’s the industry he’s found himself in for the past 10 years, with software and services firm, FIS Global. Although don’t ask him to fix your laptop, and certainly don’t expect him to peer review any code whatsoever.
On leaving the Prep in 1985, he followed his brother Nick to Winchester College and then, after a gap year travelling, he spent 3 years at Exeter University, where it is rumoured (or possibly assumed by his degree) that he spent more time in the radio station than in lectures. That interest in the media lead him to his first job at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, where he was to stay for almost 17 years, including an 8 year stint in their New York office, where his leaning towards IT started to take over.
When away from a reliable WiFi connection, he enjoys cycling, drumming, walking the dog and pretending to cook for his long-suffering wife.
In 2021 Tom became Chairman of the Dulwich Prep Old Boys Association.
